If your tooth’s root and pulp are decayed and infected, then root canal therapy is needed. During the treatment, Dr. Michael Hall will remove the infected areas of the tooth, will fill the tooth with a special material, and will seal the tooth with a dental filling or a dental crown. After your dentist has restored your oral health, then it’s time to recover. To help you properly heal following a root canal in Bend, Oregon, then our Central Oregon Dental Center dental team encourages you to do the following things:
Take prescribed medications
Many dentists and endodontists prescribe medications to their patients after root canal therapy. If this is the case for you, make sure you take the medication as recommended. If you do not have prescribed medication, you can take over-the-counter medication, like Advil and Motrin.
Avoid using that tooth
We strongly recommend that you do not use the treated tooth if your doctor has not yet filled or covered the tooth with a dental filling or a dental crown. Try to chew your food on the opposite side of your mouth so you prevent recontamination and infection.
Brush and floss
Remember to brush and floss just like you normally would. Brushing and flossing will help you keep your mouth and surgical area clean and healthy.
Rest
It is generally recommended that you rest at least 24 hours after root canal treatment. However, if your doctor recommends longer rest time, please follow his directions.
