Be Sure to Involve Your New Partial in Your Oral Hygiene Routine

Posted .

Your new partial restores the function and appearance of multiple missing teeth. By including in your oral hygiene routine, it can serve you for many years to come.

Many people with a partial find denture adhesive to be a convenient way to secure it firmly to their gums. It can also help block out food particles. If some food particles do manage to work their way into the space between the partial and your gums, you should thoroughly rinse the unit and reapply fresh adhesive.

You should also rinse your partial each night, immediately after taking it out. This will give you a smooth surface to re-apply the denture adhesive the next day.

After all the denture adhesive is rinsed away, you should brush the unit with a soft bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste or denture polish. You should soak your partial overnight in water and keep it in a safe place.

With the partial thoroughly cleaned you can then brush and floss your teeth, per your regular oral hygiene routine. It is especially important to floss around the gum line of the the teeth neighboring the partial.
